Sausage Gnocchi

Sausage Gnocchi is a hearty and flavorful Italian-inspired dish featuring tender potato gnocchi sautéed with savory sausage and a rich tomato sauce, perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb potato gnocchi
  • 12 oz Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and chicken broth. Stir in the red pepper flakes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for 8-10 minutes to thicken slightly.
  5. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and gently toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for another 2 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  6. Remove from heat and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

For added richness, stir in a splash of heavy cream or top with shredded mozzarella before serving. Serve with a crisp green salad or garlic bread for a complete meal.
