Ingredients

Scale
  • 14 oz firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess water, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add tofu cubes and fry until all sides are golden and crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Remove tofu and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, combine soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Cook the sauce until slightly thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Return tofu to the skillet and toss to evenly coat in the teriyaki sauce.
  8. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until tofu is glazed and heated through.
  9. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving, if desired.

Notes

For extra crunch, bake the tofu cubes at 400°F for 15 minutes after frying, or serve over steamed rice and veggies for a complete meal.
