Delight in these apple pie bagels, featuring warm cinnamon apples baked inside a chewy bagel crust—a perfect fusion of classic dessert and breakfast favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix diced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Set aside to macerate for 10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm water and vegetable oil; mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and divide into 6 equal pieces.
  5. Flatten each piece into a disc and spoon a generous amount of the apple filling in the center.
  6. Fold the dough over the filling and seal completely. Shape into bagels by poking a hole in the center and gently stretching it.
  7. Place bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with beaten egg for a shiny finish.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, serve warm with a drizzle of vanilla glaze or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
